Zimbabwe's LGBTQIA+ Community continues to face government animosity
Hi Readers. Last week, the Vice President Rtd. Gen C. Chiwenga put out an official state statement shaming Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) organisation for awarding scholarships to Zimbabwean LGBTQIA students at tertiary institutions. The retort was the scholarships are a bait to lure Zimbabweans into practices of the West and that Zimbabwe is a Christian nation. Now, this is all wrong, coming from the V.P. First of all, the majority of Zimbabweans are Christians but this does not make us an entire Christian nation. There are millions who have different religious views and that statement by the VP sidelines many non Christian Zimbabweans. The Constitution is clear that we have the freedom of worship, this statement may make a lot of non Christian feel segregated. Secondly, no place in our laws makes one being gay illegal.
