SRHR Issues in Epworth community

Today there was a stakeholder's meeting organised by Plan Zimbabwe and Dialogue on Shelter Trust. The meeting's agenda is the one i put on the title, and I along with other SAYWHAT organisation activists were in attendance.

The Victim Friendly section of the Zimbabwe Republic Police was in attendance. They were able to inform us of how they were helping young people in the community through offering youth friendly service. Their office is far from the police station, at a health complex. Yhis arrangement which is a confidence booster and allows young people to go report their issues without fear of prejudice. Mrs Tawengwa, the VFU officer present at the office gave statistics of young girls who were reporting rape and sexual exploitation cases. The numbers are not pleasing. She applauded that young boys were also gaining confidence to report cases as well.

The Epworth Local Board representative also told us of the by-laws the town is in the process of enforcing to ensure that young people are safe in the community.

As SAYWHAT organisation representatives we told of how we carried out a project funded by #UNICEF which is called Children's Rights in Full, in short CRIF. The project aimed to identify children who dropped out of school because they were victims of Gender Based violence and were living in poverty or previously involved in some form of conflict/incarcerated. These children were sent back to the school with their school tuition and uniforms paid for. During this week infact, we had been carrying out an end of project evaluation in the area and also in #Hopley communities were we got the intended beneficiaries. We got to have interviews with the young people, other stakeholders and parents who praised this opportunity which allowed them to send their children back to school. The children themselves wished if they could get textbooks and other resources to use at school.

Well, so that's it. The work that need to be dome for young people in Zimb

abwe 🇿🇼  is enormous. It would be good if the government were to invest more in the education of young people because truth is more needs to be done.
