Save Monavale Vlei

 Mashonaland Branch Members,

Here is a matter we as Mashonaland Birders should take note of seriously!

There is a proposal to develop 105 houses on Monavale Vlei!

The area is where Mashonaland Branch of Birdlife Zimbabwe has a monthly Monavale Vlei walk!

It is the same area where visitors come in Summer to see Streaky- breasted Flufftails and Striped Crakes. The most well known site in Southern Africa where these birds may be seen! If this area of vlei is lost there are no other conserved areas where these birds are as easily seen.

The vlei is a Ramsar site and has been well protected for a number of years by

COSMO. It is a very valuable natural green space within Harare used by naturalists and students of all ages, a place where many vlei species of plants, birds and frogs including bullfrogs may still be found within Harare!
