Shameless cutting of blooming Jacaranda trees

Yesterday, a member of Tree for Harare group posted images of tree cutting along Central Avenue in Harare. Upon questioning the workers he got the reply that they were pruning the trees in preparation of the rainy season. But it was clearly not pruning, was butchering of these trees. They managed to fill a truckload with heavy branches. Seems like their appetite for wood is so unsatiable that they have to touch our jacarandas in bloom.

Today I walked through Livingston Avenue and they football pitch on corner Livingstone and 7th Street is now being developed. On Enterprise Rd, right in front of our Scout's HQ there's now a car sale ans they are chopping trees as well. This is outrageous. We expect better from our city authorities and as a resident of Harare I am livid. The football pitch invaders may chop down those trees in Livingstone Ave, mind you, this avenue is one of the best jacaranda lined streets in Harare, with awesome views when the trees bloom purple. Why is the City council dishing out land that has a purpose ? Why are they filling space between roads and properties with car sales? These lanes were left for a reason. We demand answers as residents.

I plan on having this message reach the Mayor of Harare and I hope he'll read it. Trees for Harare members would appreciate an audience with the mayorbto discuss such reckless acts happening in the 'sunshine city'.
