Harare's Tree Cutting Problem
Been long friends!
At times the online world is some serious business that needs escaping every once in a while. But I was promted to come back and write about the rate at which people are cutting trees in the city. One day you find a place with a nice healthy shady tree, the next day it's all bare, a sad looking tree stump uglies the scene and makes the place feel destitute. I don't understand why Harare residents have been cutting trees in open space. For goodness sake its not like the trees are inside their properties. Is there some selfish motive to these actions. I'd like to think so. People cutting down fine trees so that they can use the wood to feed their fires to cook food for their big events.
The apostolic sects are involved in these shenanigans. There's always heaps of fresh logs at their shrines. Where do they get the wood from? They chop down the very same trees on whose shade they shelter under! I wonder which God they pray to because they certainly lack wisdom which God is the source of.
The City of Harare is not to be spared either. They are the other culprits. Are they big bosses who just orders these unjust things? Are they just ignorant? Honestly there's nothing to explain what's going on. The fact is the City Council, EMA and every sensible person in Harare should be encouraging tree planting, saving the trees we have left and advocating for environmental conservation.
I hope someone with enough influence sees this and is moved to act. We can't just be writing posts for the sake of it. Time to act is now.
